Akebia quinata, commonly known as Chocolate Vine, is an evergreen perennial twining vine native to Japan, China and Korea. This Five Leaf Akebia can grow to 30 feet with strong vines bursting with clusters of five oblong leaves. The flowers are no insignificant matter on this vine. The purple flowers are small with 3 to 4 sepals, with a delicate exotic look and a wonderful chocolate perfume scent. Plant in full to part sun and watch this fast-grower go. This vine likes moist soil and adapts to many soil types. Excellent for coverage of unsightly places in your yard or the side of a building. Great for privacy screens, to cover fences, and works nice as ground cover, and it stays green for you all winter. Hardy in zones 4 - 9. These plants are growing in 3.5-inch pots.
