The Barbara Karst Bougainvillea is a vigorous showy vine with bright magenta-red flower-like bracts. It loves the heat, but if you don’t live in a subtropical climate simply make it a container plant and bring it inside when the temperature drops to 40 degrees, and if you have a sunny room, your Bougainvillea might still retain its gorgeous colors, even in the winter. Bougainvillea is a natural climber, but can also be treated by a regular-sized shrub. They cover walls, pergolas, fences. The bougainvillea blooms all year long, in waves, but in the dry season, the flowers are most concentrated. It loses its flowers under heavy rainfall or when excessive moisture. The bougainvillea requires little watering and full sun, water deeply when soil is dry. Zones 10 to 11. These are growing in 3.5-inch containers.
