Justicia carnea, or Brazillian Plume, Pink Flamingo Flower, Jacobinia. This perennial is from the family Acanthaceae native to the warm, subtropical climate of Atlantic Forest ecoregions of eastern Brazil. It makes a stunning decorative potted plant, and spectacular landscaping feature plant in warm temperates and subtropical climates. Use Brazilian plume in fully or partially shaded locations with morning sun and afternoon shade ideal, in well-drained soil. Extremes in water – wet or dry and very cool temperatures will cause loss of leaves. Intolerant of even a light frost. Where not hardy grow in containers, greenhouse or as annuals. Prune by heading back by hand as they respond poorly to shearing. Brazilian plume is best used in groups and masses and is beautiful in beds, as accent and in borders. Zones 8-11. These are growing in 3.5-inch pots.
