Leonotis leonurus Lions Tail is a showy specimen shrub for the landscape! This erect evergreen shrub with a woody base and dark green lanceolate leaves can grow to 6+ feet tall and nearly as wide, but can be kept smaller by pruning. Fuzzy orange tubular flowers are curved and twisted around the flower stems throughout the summer. Plant in full sun in a well drained soil. Drought tolerant. Hardy in zones 8-11, it can survive temperatures down to 20 degrees F and, if it freezes back in the winter, will often re sprout with new growth from hardened wood. Can be grown as an annual in cooler climates, or in containers to liven up your balcony or empty space!
