Yellow Passionfruit, Sweet Sunrise, is a tendril-climbing, evergreen vine that typically grows to 10-15’ long and to 3-5’ wide, in full sun, and produces extremely showy bowl-shaped fragrant purple-white passionflowers (each to 3” wide) followed by edible, yellow passionfruits. Individual flowers bloom for one day.  Ripe fruits are edible off the vine or useful in a variety of was like beverages, jellies, fruit salads and sherbets. Three-lobed evergreen glossy leaves provide the lush green background for these showy flowers. Passionflowers have an acquired religious significance that dates back to the 1700s when early Spanish settlers interpreted various parts of the flower to be symbolic of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, hence the common name. Hardy in zones 10-11, but in cooler climates, can be grown in containers provided they have a trellis to climb, and brought in for the winter. These are growing in 3.5-inch containers.
